How do I choose the right nylon cable gland size for my specific application?




Cable diameter
Accurate measurement: Use a tool such as a caliper to accurately measure the outer diameter of the cable. Note that some cables may have different outer structures, such as sheaths, shielding layers, etc., and the maximum outer diameter including all outer structures needs to be measured. For example, for power cables with rubber sheaths, the outer diameter of the sheath should be measured.
Matching range: Refer to the nylon cable connector product specification table and select a connector with a cable diameter within its specified clamping range. For example, the PG9 nylon cable connector is usually suitable for cables with a diameter of 4-8mm. If the actual cable diameter is 7mm, this connector is a suitable choice.
Installation space
Device interface size: Carefully check the size of the cable access hole reserved on the device. The outer diameter of the connector must be able to fit the access hole. For example, if the inner diameter of the cable access hole of the control cabinet is 20mm, you need to choose a connector with an outer diameter less than 20mm. Nylon cable connectors such as M16 or PG13.5 may be suitable.
Surrounding space restrictions: Consider the space around the connector installation location to ensure that there is enough space for installation operations, such as the space required for a wrench to tighten the connector. In small electrical equipment, you may need to choose a compact connector to avoid installation difficulties due to insufficient space.
Application environment
Protection level requirements: If the application scenario requires waterproof and dustproof, such as outdoor or humid environment, you need to choose a nylon cable connector that can achieve the corresponding protection level (such as IP65, IP68). The protection level is related to the sealing structure and size design of the connector. Some large-size connectors may have better sealing performance to meet the high protection level requirements.
Temperature and chemical influence: In high temperature environment, you need to choose a nylon material connector that can withstand the corresponding temperature, and the dimensional stability should be good to prevent high temperature deformation from affecting the sealing and connection. For example, in a chemically corrosive environment, the size of the connector may change due to chemical corrosion. You need to choose a corrosion-resistant nylon material and consider appropriately enlarging the size margin to ensure long-term reliability.
Connection type
Thread standard: According to the thread type of the device interface, select a matching nylon cable connector. For example, European equipment often uses PG or M-type threads, American equipment may use NPT threads, and British and some Commonwealth countries equipment may use G-type threads. If the device interface is an M20×1.5 thread, you should choose an M20 nylon cable connector with the same thread specification.
Special connection requirements: Some applications may have special requirements such as quick connection and detachability. You need to choose a connector with a corresponding structural design and ensure that its size is compatible with the existing system.
